Newsletter Issue 157

Hello,

Got the car and I love it! Maybe I’ll find out what all the buttons do sometime.

First of all, my apologies to Sandra Bailey. I missed her name off the list of names playing in the fours in Leamington. In transferring the information from my phone onto my iPad, I missed Sandra off.

As yet, I haven’t had an update on how everyone did. Win or lose, it is a great achievement to qualify.

I announced last week that the mobile Potters shop is coming again in October. Obviously this is open to all our members but it is also open to non-members i.e. outdoor bowlers who are not members of MidGlos. Please mention it to anyone who may be interested.

The 200 Club draw took place on Friday evening. The winners were:

1st prize of £50.00 – Robin Attwood

2nd prize of £20.00 – Simon Burke

3rd prize of £10.00 – Anthony Corcoran

The winner of the snowball was not present so this rolls over to next time when it will be worth £150.00

The Bowls Committee have asked me to include a couple of points.

  • In MidGlos league matches the skip, having left the head, may not revisit the head before or during the delivery of his/her woods.
  • If a player not registered for a team is brought in to make up a shortfall in numbers, the opposing captain or skip has the right to veto either the inclusion of that player or the position in which he/she bowls.

Sheila Kingswell has asked me to put in a plea for office volunteers on alternate Tuesdays 13.00 to 15.30 to buddy with Dave Forshaw. This position has to be filled since we have league matches going on at this time.

In addition, we need someone to cover the quiet shift of 15.30 to 18.00 on Fridays. If this position is not filled, we will have to close the club for that period. I hope someone comes forward since we don’t want to go that route.

Finally, our condolences to Kath and her family. Her Mum died last week after a long and painful illness. Our very best wishes to the family.

And, on Friday evening, John Tolmie died. He too had been very ill for several weeks. He was an excellent bowler and a lovely man. Howard and I used to bowl in his teams and I took them over when he no longer felt able to run them. However, after I’d taken over, he continued to bowl in his old team until recently.

Our condolences to Edna who will find life without John very strange. I have reminded her that the “MidGlos family” is here for support.

Take care, everyone,

Linda
