Newsletter Issue 84

Hello everyone,

By the time this hits your device, we’ll be well on our way down to Hopton on Sea in Norfolk! The club should be a lot quieter this week with thirty of us away. We know we’ll have a good time but I’ll report on how well we do on the bowling front in the next newsletter.

In the semis of the Wednesday night interclub competition, Cheltenham beat MidGlos B and Bishops Cleeve beat MidGlos A so it’s Cheltenham v Bishops Cleeve in the final.

The postponed Mason’s game between MidGlos A ladies and North Wilts ladies was played on Friday. Although the home team won, our score wasn’t high enough to win overall which means that we are now out of that competition. We did well to reach the fifth round just missing out on the next game which is the quarter final. However, we’ll try again next year. Thank you to all those who put their names forward.

These competitions are by no means “a closed shop”. We need more ladies to form the pool of players from which to choose. It’s all good experience. We all have to start somewhere and our more experienced players would be only too happy to help. The first time I played in one of these matches, I watched, listened and learned a lot.

Both the men and ladies were playing in the interclub on Saturday. Our men beat Cheltenham Spa and Cheltenham men beat Barnwood.

In the afternoon there was just one ladies’ game being played between MidGlos and Cheltenham. One MidGlos rink and one Cheltenham rink won. However, overall Cheltenham won which means that they will play Barnwood in the semis and MidGlos will play Cheltenham Spa on 12th March at 13.30.

Incidentally, on that evening, it is Sheila’s quiz at 7.30pm.

Really good news from our Wessex A team! They were playing the last vital game in the initial round robin yesterday. There were two rinks at home and two rinks away at Cotswold A. The final result was a draw meaning that both teams are through to the next round. Cotswold came first and we came second and, since two teams go through, that means that we have qualified. Congratulations to all concerned and good luck in the next match.

That’s all from me. See you in a week.

Take care,

Linda.
