Hello again … after a week off – there was nothing much to report.

Sadly, I have to report the death of Stephen Tomkins on Wednesday of a heart attack. I, for one, was so shocked. I’d been playing against him recently when we’d exchanged experiences of Bucklers Hard in the New Forest.

He was a lovely man and a very good bowler. In the winter he bowled on a Monday morning, Tuesday for Strollers, Wednesday for Astras and Friday afternoon for Chums. This summer he was playing for Ark Angels on Mondays, Heavenly Angels on Tuesdays and Mentors Plus on Thursdays.

He will really be missed at the club. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends. There are no details yet of his funeral arrangements yet.

A member has asked me to make you aware of scam emails from people purporting to be club members asking for financial help to “buy a present for an elderly relative” or some other plausible reason if you “know the name of the sender” in that the scammer is using names of members of the club. Be very careful.

The work on the roof is indeed finished but the scaffolding is yet to be removed. Two different companies were involved and the scaffolding company have it on their list of “to dos”.

If you’ve been into the club in the last couple of weeks, you may have noticed that the wall below the viewing screens are a different colour. The first coat has been applied by our chairman. The second will be done in due course. The unsightly scuff marks from people using the wall as a footrest have been obliterated.

Fortunately my plea a couple of weeks ago to save Steve Bluck’s confidence worked and more folks have signed up for his quiz this Saturday, 15th June. Seeing that date has made me realise that we’re not far off the longest day and we’re still waiting for summer!!!

I’ve heard that we can expect summer to begin at the end of June and not before. I voted for global warming. I thought it would be a good thing. Not so sure now. (Please don’t write in – that was tongue in cheek!).

Take care everyone,

Linda
