Hello again,

Let’s see if I can get everything right this week!

First of all – congratulations to MidGlos for beating GVPBA on Saturday afternoon.

But, last Sunday, we had a young MidGlos lady winning both the pairs and singles in our U18 competition. Erin Burke, along with Dylan Williamson won the pairs and Erin also won the singles. Very well done!

Many, many congratulations to our Wessex A team who beat West Berks A this morning. When we arrived after five ends, we were behind but things soon changed with all four rinks winning making it an impressive win in the end.

They now go on to play Welford next Sunday in the quarter finals. Welford did well to beat Dolphin who were last year’s winners. Unfortunately several of our players are unavailable next week. I just hope we are able to field a team and a strong one at that! Good luck to all concerned🤞.

This Tuesday, at 12.45 is the Ladies’ Section Meeting. This is when the ladies decide which competitions we will enter in 2024/25. These competitions are for all ladies. Lists go up to be signed if you wish to be considered in the selection process. We are always looking for new names, particularly back-end players. Keep your eyes on the ladies’ notice board and please consider adding your name. Above all, please try to attend the meeting on Tuesday.

Roger Fry, our competitions organiser has asked me to remind all entrants to make sure that their games are played before the closing date of 25th March. The finals were to be played on 6th and 7th April but the latter date may have to be brought forward if our Wessex A team gets through to the final to be played that day at Dolphin in Poole. Should that happen, I’m sure there’ll be a good number of folks wishing to support them.

The Interclub finals are to be played this Saturday, 16th March – ladies at 10.00 over 16 ends and men at 13.30 also over 16 ends. As always, support is welcome🙏. I’m ashamed to say that support from MidGlos is always thin on the ground whereas Barnwood and Cheltenham Town, Caer Glow and Cheltenham Spa always have a healthy number of supporters. Please try to support us – it makes such a difference?!

I have a final gentle reminder – alcohol cannot be sold to minors (children under the age of 18). Were this to happen it would attract a healthy fine to the person selling the alcohol and probably a loss of our licence to sell alcohol and a fine for the club. If you are lucky enough to look under age, a valid proof of age is required.

Sadly, my age has never been queried! I tell a lie – when we were playing in Staffordshire, one of our leagues was for the over 60s. My captain was approached by a very irate opposing captain querying whether or not I should be playing in that league. I was delighted. I think his Specsavers appointment was the following week!

I think that all that remains for me to say is that the next quiz is this Saturday, 16th after the Interclub finals when your host will be Steve Bluck.

Take care everyone,

Linda

An article for News Letter. The volunteer gardeners have now finished removing the bramble from the overflow carpark with just a few piles of leaves to go. Thanks Layla Rachel and Dave
I have a picture, I will send to Kath on the office.
