Newsletter Issue 180

Hello,

More exciting news about our youngsters – a week last Friday Dylan Williamson and Louie Hodges played an under 18s singles match where, this time, it was Louie’s turn to come out on top. Well played both of you. This now means that Louie has qualified and will join Finley Williamson to play in the last sixteen of the under 18s finals in Nottingham on 7th April. We wish them both really good luck.

Finley and Lee Williamson are playing against Dan and Tom Holmes (Malvern) at Welford on Avon on 21st February in the area final of the family pairs competition. The winners will qualify to play in the finals in Nottingham. Good look to our MidGlos guys!

The second round of the Saturday Interclub matches took place on Saturday.

The ladies played in the morning in some very close matches. Cheltenham Town beat Barnwood by just one shot while MidGlos beat Caer Glow also by one shot. Two nail-biting finishes!

In the afternoon, I believe that Cheltenham men beat Barnwood while MidGlos beat Cheltenham Spa again narrowly by three shots.

Well done to everyone involved and thank you for keeping this competition going.

We can always accommodate more teams if any more outdoor clubs would like to enter. Just get in touch.

The Future of the Club meeting on Friday evening was well-supported by over eighty-five people. I believe it was well-received and was a very positive, encouraging meeting. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend since I wasn’t very well. However, I intend being there for the repeat of the presentation on Friday at 12.30 after the morning umbrella. If you missed the first one, please come along on Friday.

You will go away with a sheet on which you can express your thoughts/suggestions as happened on Friday evening. Even if you cannot attend please ask at reception for a suggestion sheet. Put your ideas down and hand it back to reception asap. All the comments from the club members will go forward to either the Board, the Bowling Committee or the GMC for consideration and hopefully implementation.

I hope those of you who attended the quiz on Saturday evening enjoyed it. Well done to Jill Whiting for running her first quiz. I think Steve Sully is making his debut at running our next one in March – the sheets are already up.

Next Sunday, 18th February, the Wessex A team is playing Cotswold A. This is a really important match since there are three teams who could possibly qualify to play in the play off on 10th March. Two teams only can qualify – another nail biter! We’ll be there to support. If you can, please come along.

On the Saturday, 17th, it is the Tony Allcock match between the ladies and men. I believe we have sufficient names for six rinks now. If you are not able to play, please come along to support and shout for your team!

There are sign-up sheets on the board in the foyer for the summer season. If you are a captain looking for players (as I am), please sign up with your contact number and specify the day when you have vacancies. Likewise, if you are looking for a team or teams, please sign up.

Finally, the usual AGM sheets are now up on the notice board … please don’t ignore them and if you can offer your services in any way for the positions highlighted please step forward.

As usual, I hope I’ve remembered everything.

Take care,

Linda

I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until April for Steve Sully’s debut as a Midglos quizmaster as I will be the one posing the questions in March.
