Greetings,

When this arrives in your inbox, we’ll be well on our way to Potters to play in the EBF midweek tournament.

The first thing I have to mention is an amendment to the information about the monthly draw for the 200 Club. It will be on the third Friday of the month, i.e. the next one will be on 17th March at 18.45. The bar will be open from 6.15 p.m. Don’t forget – if you’re not there to receive the snowball prize, it will be carried forward. When it’s finally won, it could amount to “big money”!

Our quiz nights are proving to be very popular. Here is a “heads up” of the dates for your diary:

18th March – Sheila

29th April – Norman

20th May – Steve

17th June – Sheila

19th August – Steve

16th September – Norman

21st October – Sheila

18th November – Steve

16th December – Norman

Please note that non-members will be required to sign in.

Both the men’s and ladies’ Interclubs took place on Saturday with Cheltenham Spa men beating Barnwood and Cheltenham (Town/Suffolk Square) men beating MidGlos. In the afternoon, Barnwood ladies beat Cheltenham while MidGlos ladies beat Caer Glow. Well done to all the players!

Our Wessex A team were playing Cotswold A yesterday at home and away. Both home rinks won but both away rinks lost meaning that Cotswold A is now top of the round robin and MidGlos A is second. Both teams now go through to play in the regional playoffs. Well done guys and good luck in the next round.

On 9th March, Potters Roadshow is coming to MidGlos. Basically, their shop will be in our club. If you’re looking to change your bowls or buy any new kit, then this is your chance. If your size is not available – no problem – it can be sourced from the Potters shop. This is a great opportunity – put the date in your diary. Paul (from Potters) will be at the club from 10.00 until 16.00.

If you’re interested in playing in the Australian Pairs in the summer on a Wednesday morning, please enter your name in the red folder at reception as you enter.

Please note that the club will be closed on Thursday, 2nd March from 13.00 to 18.00. There will be no coaching on that day.

MidGlos is through to the final of the Denny Plate against Cumbria. This is to be played in Nottingham on 15th April at 15.00. It is twenty years since MidGlos last got to this stage. What an achievement! To celebrate their success, we have booked a coach (with a toilet) to support our team. The notice is on the men’s competition board. The cost is £20.00 per person or £10.00 if under eighteen. Spaces are filling up fast. It’s on a first come, first served basis. Don’t miss out!

If you were at the club on Friday, you may have seen a guy digging out near the entrance to the club. A barrier is to be installed on 6th March. Hopefully this will deter any unwanted visitors from setting up camp on our car park.

Last Friday evening, Tom Evans was playing the singles Area final against a guy from North Wilts. I am delighted to announce that Tom was the victor. Well done Tom! He will now go on to play in the area knockouts. Good luck, Tom.

On Saturday, Fin Williamson was playing singles in Daventry and on Sunday, he was playing Pairs with Josh Hodges. Both games were National under twenties. Fin lost his singles game in the semi final and he and Josh lost in the quarters of the Pairs. A sterling performance from both. Fin is sixteen and I’m not sure of Josh’s age but he is younger. Really well done lads especially since you’re both well under twenty! Keep it up!

Have a good week. I know we will.

Take care,

Linda

Linda Watkin-Jones.

Director (PR & Marketing).
