Hello everyone,

What a busy week-end!

Quite a few of us were at the club on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the almost final session of the light changing was completed. There is a row of smaller square lights, which I had never noticed, still to be done. However, that will be tackled very soon. From now on, there should be no more flickering!

The guys have done a sterling job. They have saved the club a lot of money and given up their free time for the small reward of a bacon/sausage bap and a mug of tea/coffee! Thank you again to all concerned – none of these guys is a spring chicken, either!

Not only have we been spared the cost of labour but each of the old lights was 260 watts. The replacements are a mere 40 watts. Bearing in mind that all of the rink lights along with both the ladies’ and gents’ loos and both changing rooms must number 250ish, it is going to be quite a saving on the electricity bills!

The whole job has been led by our member Ian (Noddy) Holder. Don’t forget to watch “DIY SOS” on Tuesday in order to catch a glimpse of him working on the conversion of a house in Charlton Kings in order to help out a family in desperate need due to disability. He’s a great guy who just loves helping people out if he can.

On Sunday, some of the people on the local estate had opened up their gardens. I’m sure a lot of work had gone into the preparation and presentation of their handiwork. As last year, we provided the homemade cakes and tea/coffee/squash, all of which went down well. The weather was so much kinder this year meaning that we had a good turnout.

The final figures are yet to be calculated but we must have taken £200.00 plus which makes it worthwhile. Since we’d no idea of the numbers, we’d over-provided so, should we do it again, we will make fewer cakes. The overage will be on offer for donations to the club in the next couple of days.

The first matches of the Australian Pairs league were played on Wednesday morning – it was very enjoyable and such good practice in that you have four woods and you play both lead and skip. If you haven’t partaken this season, I would recommend it for next summer season.

This coming Saturday, 18th June is the next quiz when Steve and Tricia Bluck will be the quizmaster and assistant. Sheila Kingswell was due to be the quizmaster of the July quiz but, unfortunately will now not be able to fulfil the role. Instead Howard is stepping in and probably calling upon our resident very accomplished pianist, Derek Thorpe, to help in the music round(s). We look forward to it.

In the meantime, as usual, take care and I look forward to seeing you all soon,

Linda.
