Newsletter Issue 95

Hello everyone,

Again, not a lot to report but just keeping you all in the picture…

The first phase of the new LED lights is completed – half of the bowling hall is now done. The guys started work at 8.00a.m. on Wednesday and worked solidly until 3.30p.m. apart from a bacon butty break (supplied by Sheila and Elly) at 11.00ish. Howard came home absolutely “cream-crackered”. Graham went to bed at 9.00p.m. and Frank was still bent double on Thursday morning! Ten men turned up to help. Many, many thanks to all of you.

The difference is amazing! Rinks 1 to 4 have been done. I bowled on rink 2 on Thursday morning and looked across to rink 7 and wondered why they were bowling in darkness!

As of Friday, the total donated towards the cost of the new lights is £2010.00. Thank you to all who’ve donated but there is still time for more – it really helps.

Most of you will not be aware that the sit-upon mower is at the repairers yet again! Once again this work is carried out by volunteers. The work required on the mower is rather costly. We decided that, rather than have the continual cost of maintaining it and taking up valuable volunteer time (none of whom is getting any younger) we would approach the company that maintains the grass around the housing estate. Having received their quote, we’ve agreed that this is the route we’re going to take.

It was good to see Norman and Sheila Hancock back running the quiz on Saturday evening. There were some tricky questions but it was enjoyed by all, I think. The next quiz will be run by Sheila Kingswell on 18th June. The sheet is now up in the club to be signed if you intend coming. If you’re not in the club, just ‘phone up and your name will be added.

There are just two weeks left now before the Jubilee Garden Party. Don’t forget to buy your tickets and we’re still looking for help on the day and any donations of cakes and raffle will be gratefully received. The same goes for the National Gardens Scheme on the following Sunday, 12th June.

We’re still hoping to run the Australian Pairs league on a Wednesday morning. Please let Steve Bluck know if you’re interested. His e-mail address is in the last newsletter which can be found on the website.

There are some items which have been hanging about at reception for some time. If they’re not claimed in the next two weeks, they will be thrown out. If you recognise them, please contact reception.

That’s all folks until the next time.

Take care,

Linda.

Linda Watkin-Jones.
