Hello everyone,

Isn’t it lovely to see sunshine and the days lengthening but the first item on this week’s agenda is sad. You will have seen his photo up in the club at reception. Gordon Brown, a former long-standing member has recently died. His funeral will be on 23rd March at 3pm at Gloucester Crematorium and afterwards the wake will be at the club. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

The Ladies’ section meeting is to be held tomorrow at 12.45p.m. This is an important meeting when we plan for the year ahead. The meeting is usually held in the evening when some ladies are reluctant to drive so, in order to attract more, we’ve moved it to the daytime.

As I’ve pointed out before, this is not a closed shop. We need as many ladies as possible to come forward to give the competitions a “go”. The reality is that some of our regulars are finding it more and more taxing each year.

I joined the club four years ago as a former county crown green bowler. I put my name down and have grown and learned “on the job”. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful. It’s been a big learning curve but I’ve loved every minute of it, win or lose. There’s no doubt that the more exposure you have to competition, the more you learn and the deeper you dig. So, go on, give it a go!

This year’s AGM is on Wednesday 13th April at 7.00p.m. at the club. Please try to attend but, prior to that, please check the notices on the easel near reception. There are several vacancies needing to be filled. If you feel you could help out, please find a proposer and seconder and enter your name in the appropriate slot. You won’t be thrown in at the deep end. We are all here to help and that is just what we do – we work as a team and support each other.

The men’s Saturday Interclub Finals were played at the week-end. Cheltenham was playing Barnwood for first and second place and MidGlos and Cheltenham Spa were playing for third and fourth place. There was some excellent bowling with Cheltenham coming out on top followed by Barnwood, MidGlos and Cheltenham Spa. Well done to all and thank you for playing.

In the afternoon, the ladies were playing the semi-finals. It was exactly the same line-up as the men with Cheltenham beating Barnwood and MidGlos beating Cheltenham Spa. Next Saturday at 10.00am Cheltenham will play MidGlos for first and second place while Barnwood will play Cheltenham Spa for third and fourth place.

Our Wessex A team was playing Loddon Vale yesterday morning and I’m pleased to report that they won quite convincingly. Well done to all concerned. They now go on to play Erewash in the quarters. Good luck guys!

Ladies, please try to attend the meeting on Tuesday and all members, please check out the Board and Bowls Committee vacancies and give it some considered thought.

Until next week, take care.

Linda.
