Happy New Year!

Let’s hope we’re on the way back to normality. It’s been difficult for all of us but I particularly feel for those of you who’ve been bereaved during Covid times and those of you who live alone. I know our club is a lifeline to so many people and to have that taken away has exacerbated an already trying time.

It’s been lovely to see the club come back to life and to hear laughter and banter on the rinks again. Long may it continue!

Huge congratulations go to Mike Prosser for reaching the final stages of Champion of Champions which will be held at Dolphin B C on 5th and 6th February. He won his Area Final recently at Bristol 21-20 – obviously a close match. Incidentally in true Mike Prosser fashion, he kept this brilliant news very quiet (another little bird told me!!).

There are still some Christmas raffle prizes left on the snooker table. Don’t forget to check at reception to see if you’re a winner and so collect your item.

The Wednesday night Interclub resumes this Wednesday at 7.00pm. On Saturday 15th January, the finals of the Mixed Interclub matches are to be played. Cheltenham plays Barnwood for 1st and 2nd place while Cheltenham Spa plays MidGlos for 3rd and 4th place. Since they’re finals, the dress code is whites.

In the evening, it’s the monthly quiz (with a difference, since Howard is your quizmaster – he’s not Barrie but he’ll attempt to amuse you and promises not to sing!). Again, I think all the tables have been taken.

On Friday 21st January, MidGlos A plays MidGlos B team in the next stage of the Masons. Such a shame that we have to play each other but at least one MidGlos team will go through. Again, spectators are very welcome.

The Friday umbrella will still go ahead but two rinks will be taken for the National competition.

On 22nd January, a Burns night is to be held. More information to follow as soon as arrangements are confirmed. All I know is that it will be different from past years’ celebrations at the club.

Take care this evening but enjoy and say goodbye to 2021 in style!!!
