Newsletter Issue 103

Hello again,

We’re back from our little break in Pembrokeshire which didn’t quite go to plan since less than an hour after we arrived, we were on our way to A&E in Haverfordwest from where we transferred to Minor Injuries. I have to say that it didn’t look very “minor” to me! Howard had gashed his leg rather badly!

I’ve spared you the one before the copious amount of strapping! We were back at our local “minor injuries” yesterday where it was redressed and antibiotics prescribed for the infection which had just started. He sees the nurse at our doctor’s on Tuesday and then again Friday. He is accident-prone so we’ve visited many hospitals here and abroad but we hadn’t been to Haverfordwest before so that was a first!

Needless to say, he can’t bowl for a while!

Our tale of woe over… now onto bowling club issues. At my request, Graham has moved the “Items for sale” board from near the men’s toilets (I had no idea it was there since I never venture down there). It is now in a more prominent position near the drinks machine. Half of the notice board already there will be dedicated to items for sale. In order to place an advert, first collect an official card from reception.

We are considering opening at week-ends in the winter season. This is an idea only at this stage. Outdoor summer bowlers are used to playing at week-ends, of course. Many of our members are retired but surely this would appeal to our working members and prospective new members. Any member willing to commit would of course be welcome.

There is a working group dedicated to this project. There are many issues to be considered. For example;

would you commit to week-end bowling?

would you want Saturday or Sunday opening or both?

would you want leagues or just roll-ups?

would you want an umbrella?

would you want catering? etc.

This is merely a “heads up” that we may need your input in the near future. In the meantime, give it some thought please.

As usual, take care (I say that to Howard all the time – to no avail!).

Linda.

Hello Linda, Thanks for your latest newsletter. We are very sorry to hear about Howard’s injury, it certainly looks very nasty. We hope it’s not quite as bad as it looks and he’s not in too much discomfort and will recover reasonably quickly. Give him our best wishes, and we look forward to seeing him back at the Club again, hopefully in the not too distant future. Regards to you both, Jill & Frank
